Westworld was honored this morning with three Golden Globe nominations! The series’ showrunners, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, may have slept through the early morning announcement but were thrilled when they got the news. The two spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Westworld‘s accomplishments and their esteem for nominees Evan Rachel Wood (Best Actress) and Thandie Newton (Best Supporting Actress).
Nolan was “ecstatic” to hear of the nominations and revered the actress’ excellent performances and recognition:
Those ladies in particular, and our entire cast, have worked so hard and were so generous and fearless and transcendent with their performances, it’s a thrill to see them recognized.
HBO’s other huge series, Game of Thrones, is also up for the Best Drama category. Nolan and Joy both had nothing but kind words for the competition:
You don’t “compete” against Game of Thrones so much as be happy you’re in the same conversation. That’s a magnificent show, and we’re thrilled and flattered to be in the same conversation.
That’s the thing about this year: I’m a fangirl of all the nominees. I’m friends with a lot of people on these shows, and it’s just thrilling to see so much great content out there. As a TV watcher, what more could I possibly want?
Aside from Thrones, Westworld is up against more fierce competition, including fan-favorite Stranger Things and break-out new series This Is Us.
The two had more kind words for actor Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Robert Ford), who (despite a flawless performance) wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe, over at EW.
Personally, I’m confident Westworld’s outstanding inaugural outing will snag at least a few awards this season. What are your thoughts? Let us know below!
