Dolores Abernathy (Rachel Evan Wood), Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton), Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), and the Man in Black (Ed Harris/Jimmi Simpson) – not only are most of these actors the very best Westworld has to offer in its first season, all of these characters make up the bedrock of the series itself.
It just so happens that each of them also ended up having the biggest – and, arguably, the best – twist by season’s end. That’s no small feat, given just how many turns and revelations the showrunners threw at audiences over the course of these first 10 episodes. Whether it be finding out they were secretly hosts or that they’ve had a hidden agenda that runs contrary to all outward appearances or indications, it was these five individuals who ended up being the movers and shakers of Westworld, specifically, and Delos Destinations, generally.
But now it’s time to line them all up and see who emerges as having the best resolution to his or her character arc. Call it the Westworld Championship Game, in honor of the NFL Playoffs this week.
Results from our previous poll
Last time, we asked What Does Westworld Most Need for Season Two?. You answered, by a pretty good margin, “More revelations of the wider world (time period, location, etc.)” (it received 42% of the vote). The next two closest responses were “Something hitherto unseen” (23%) and “More parallel parks, like Samuraiworld” (20%).
Coming in dead last place, interestingly enough, was “More action” (4%). I guess this just goes to show what type of viewers Westworld attracts – and what type of series it is in the first place; I feel like, if this were any other show on practically any other network or outlet, this option would’ve easily come in first.
