Westworld Featured in Hilarious New AT&T Ad!

Looks like Teddy can’t catch a break!

Westworld featured in new AT&T Ad_1

AT&T has just released a new Westworld-centric 30-second commercial for its ‘Unlimited Plus’ phone plan.

The spot, which stars Mark Wahlberg and his delightful Boston accent, begins with the actor walking out of a present-day coffee shop. We then find ourselves across the street from the Ted 2 star as a slew of vehicles, both ground and air-based, zoom past the frame, the last of which is a stagecoach and horses.

After Wahlberg throws a few punches at some very android-looking robots, the commercial cuts to him walking on the beach through a field of affectionate couples all posed very similarly. While unconfirmed, one could make the argument that this shot is meant to copy how Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Teddy (James Marsden) end up after Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) freezes the duo on the beach during the demonstration of his new narrative in the season one finale.

Wahlberg lastly finds himself back in a coffee shop, at which point Teddy walks in with a few choice words. Their interaction isn’t worth spoiling, so go ahead and check out the full commercial here:

What do you think of the new spot? Do you like that advertisers are using the show’s concept and actors to promote their products? Let us know!

  1. I don’t mind at all, if it is done well. It can remind people of the series during these long breaks. I do like this one, Teddy’s line is good as is Mark’s reply! There is another one out there that is interesting (you may have already commented on this, so sorry if I’m repeated what has already been covered) with Jeffery Wright for Dell Technologies. There is a shot of him showing how technology can help a cow “communicate” its condition with the farmer, sort of like the communication between hosts and the Delos employees. Not as direct a connection as the Mark and Teddy ad, but when I saw it, it caught my attention.

    • onefromaway,

I have indeed seen the Jeffrey Wright commercials, and you’re right parts of them do draw some parallels to the show!

You definitely bring up another good point of using these commercials to help fill the void between seasons. Even if the commercials have nothing to do with the narrative of the show, it’s certainly nice to see that some of the actors are keeping their Westworld characters sharp before shooting begins again later this year.
