New Video Posted on the Discover Westworld Website May Contain Clues for Season 2!

Discover Westworld Website

The Westworld marketing team is at it again with an update to the Discover Westworld website. In an effort to promote the new Westworld Experience Center opening at San Diego Comic Con – billed as an “immersive experience” – there is a new video on display as you enter the site. Of course, there are some interesting tidbits to unpack aside from promoting the center, so let’s take a look!

The video starts out as a glitch, with a flash of code appearing, before an “unknown user” types the question “Is anybody out there?” The user continues with the phrase “We need help,” and then “Something’s gone wrong, can you hear th-” before the transmission is interrupted with a systems override. It then begins loading “Journey into Night” – perhaps a confirmation of the season 2 premiere title showrunner Jonathan Nolan teased on Reddit? We then see a registered user relay that “All as well “and “Celebrations continue…” before cutting to a promotion of the experience center in San Diego.

So what does this all mean? After the season one finale, the website contained an Easter egg that – once decoded – seemed to hint that Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) was still alive and in the park. Could she be the unknown user? This video seems to suggest that Westworld is on lockdown with the hosts monitoring what information enters and leaves the park; how long they can retain control remains to be seen. Hopefully some intrepid fan can decipher the rest of the code to see if there are any other clues hidden within!

Thanks to reader Amber for bringing this to our attention!

  1. That’s very interesting.

Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder whether Season 2 will show the hosts actually taking the park over and keeping it running (to all outward appearances) while replacing the humans killed in the finale with host duplicates? They could then continue to do the same to any arriving guests, leading ultimately to the infiltration and takeover of the mainland.

    *SPOILER*

It would be a nice nod in story terms to the original 1973 film’s (imho not very good) sequel Futureworld, too.

Of course, if that is what ends up happening (a huge “if”), I doubt it would be presented in such straightforward terms, or indeed that we would fully realise that was what was happening until the season finale! 😀

    • ManWithNoName,

Very cool theory. Sounds plausible to me – especially in light of the “terms and conditions” on the Discover Westworld site, which contains the following:

      (b) By entering the Delos Destinations Port of Entry, you acknowledge that Delos, Inc. controls the rights to and remains the sole owner of, in perpetuity: all skin cells, bodily fluids, secretions, excretions, hair samples, saliva, sweat, blood, and any other bodily functions not listed here. Delos, Inc. reserves the right to use this property in any way, shape, or form in which the entity sees fit.

Possible DNA/cloning experiments going on? Perhaps the hosts turn this to their advantage against Delos?
