On arguably one of the biggest television nights of the year, that being the finale of Game of Thrones‘ penultimate season, HBO decided to release a new ‘Coming Soon’ trailer featuring clips of their series to come. Lucky for us, this trailer featured some brand new footage from Westworld‘s upcoming second season!
The beginning of the trailer features some shots that look to be from Westworld‘s first season, including Maeve (Thandie Newton) laying in bed and then walking through the field with her daughter, and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Teddy (James Marsden) riding their horses along the top of a hill with the breathtaking Utah landscape in the background.
Towards the end of the trailer is when we get our glimpse at the new footage. The first shot (pictured above) features Dolores and Teddy on horseback with a beautiful sunset behind them. They both look to be staring beyond the camera at something – could they be looking at the field of dead bodies that we see them gunning down during the season 2 Comic-Con teaser trailer?
The trailer then cuts to a quick shot of Maeve pinning Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) against a wall in the Delos control room and pointing a gun at him. Her hair and outfit look to be the same as how we leave her in season 1, suggesting that this scene takes place not too long after she exits the train. It’s also worth noting that in the Comic-Con trailer we see Maeve and Lee standing side by side looking in disbelief at the sea of bodies strewn about the control room. Assuming this shot takes place after Maeve’s threatening of him, it’s safe to assume Lee ultimately gives in to the angry host.
The final Westworld clip shows a scene featuring a group of Ghost Nation members frozen whilst in the midst of attacking a large bear. In the foreground looks to be a member of their group who has yet to freeze all motor functions and is slowly walking towards the frozen hosts. Could this be a conscious host coming to attack the Delos techs who ordered the group to freeze? Or will he perhaps be able to unfreeze his fellow androids (and maybe even the bear)?
While we aren’t given much, these clips certainly do provide some fuel for the speculation fire. Check out the full trailer below, and let us know how you interpret it!
