UPDATE! Westworld Filming Update: New Building Added to Melody Ranch Set

From Season One
From Season One

As filming for Westworld‘s second season continues on the Melody Ranch set in Santa Clarita, CA, very few updates have emerged regarding the content being captured. This, of course, is a good thing for a show that depends heavily on secrecy, so as not to spoil the many twists and turns that co-showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy surely still have up their sleeves.

However, Westworld Watchers reader Jeanne has provided us with a new (and spoiler-free) filming scoop, and it’s one that will definitely spark some fresh theorizing.

According to Jeanne, the show has added a new building to the exterior town set at Melody Ranch. While it’s difficult to get a good look at the new set piece, the building looks to be two to three stories tall. Additionally, the new structure doesn’t look to be on the set’s main street, which could hint at the fact that it may be meant for a different part of the park outside of Sweetwater.

At this point, it’s difficult to say what this new building could be used for. Given the size of it, it could perhaps be used as part of Delos’s larger operations facility. Or maybe it will be a command post for Jonathan Tucker‘s new character, the commanding military officer Major Craddock.

Jeanne has also provided us with a filming schedule update for the rest of this week. Westworld filmed on Melody Ranch’s stage yesterday (Monday), and is scheduled to shoot on the exterior Melody Town set September 13-15. Perhaps the show will utilize its new building during these next 3 shoot days?

Update:

It looks like the set construction is proceeding even faster than we realized. We’ve learned, thanks to another update from Jeanne, that the newly-built structure now definitely appears to be part of a new setting on Melody Ranch! The set includes tall facades and possibly other buildings, all surrounding a square in the center.  This new set-up is surrounded by a sort of metal rigging, high above the rooftops.

What do you think of the new set addition? Do you think it could serve any other purpose than above? Let us know!

  1. At first, I thought the elevated metal frame above the set was meant to hang curtains from (for cgi), or to place and move the cameras along a track. But they have extended ithe frame towards the Melody Town main street and there is now a second large square attached to the first. Maybe they will add more. And the frame is actually fairly substantial, looking like something you would see at a construction site. With a little more work, they look like they could be used as walkways. Just my guess.
