Jonathan Nolan Discusses Westworld’s Season One 4k Home Video Release

Westworld Season 1 Disc Package

As first reported a few months ago, Westworld will be making history as it soon becomes the first scripted show to offer a home video-version of its freshman season in 4k Ultra HD resolution (along with Blu-Ray and DVD formats). This will give the diehard fans (like myself) the opportunity to experience the greatness of the first season with even more stunning visual and audio elements.

Westworld‘s co-creator and co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan found some time in his busy shooting schedule to catch up with Entertainment Weekly regarding the upcoming home video release, which is set to drop on November 7th. As he explains, allowing fans to experience the true film-based visuality of the show is of utmost importance:

“From the beginning, we wanted to shoot in film — the traditional format for the Western. I grew up with my brother [director Christopher Nolan] shooting on film, and felt it remained the best image capture system available. But it’s hard to reproduce the beauty of what we’re getting in a broadcast environment. I’m very excited about the presentation we were able to do on HBO, but with UHD and HDR we were able to do something that’s much more faithful to what we’re shooting and get closer to the texture and density of colors of the film that we’re making.”

The visual part of the show isn’t the only thing getting a bump in quality for the home release. Nolan explains that he and his team completely remastered the first season’s score to fit the formatting of the Dolby Atmos sound system. “Atmos is pretty extraordinary,” says Nolan.“If you want to buy 28 speakers for your home and hook them all up, you can, and Atmos will figure out how to divvy up all the channels and figure out the most immersive version of the soundtrack.”

As if this wasn’t enough of a draw, the home video release will also come with the following bonus content featurettes (some of which first debuted for the season’s digital release earlier this year):

– Imagining the Main Title (New)

– The Key to The Chords (New)

– 2017 Comic Con Panel (New)

– Gag Reel (New)

– Welcome to Westworld

– Crafting a Narrative

– An Invitation to The Set

– Welcome to Westworld: About the Series

– Reality of A.I.: Westworld

– “The Big Moment” Featurettes
