Excited for the next Westworld episode? Get a taste of what’s in store with a new set of photos, courtesy of HBO. The upcoming episode is titled “The Absence of Field,” written by Denise Thé with Amanda Marsalis directing. The synopsis is “Some do not like what they see in the mirror but shouldn’t blame the mirror.”
The title comes from a poem by Mark Strand, “Keeping Things Whole.” It begins “In a field / I am the absence / of field. / This is / always the case. / Wherever I am / I am what is missing.” Considering that whoever is in Charlotte (Tessa Thompson) seems to be struggling with identity, and may need to unify their host personality with the new one they are made to adopt, it seems an apt choice for this episode.
In the first photo, we can clearly see that this host is struggling to come to terms with the image in the mirror. The picture below conveys a sense of loneliness, and Charlotte is looking at a glass screen on the desk – perhaps staring at their reflection again?
Caleb (Aaron Paul) meets with Dolores. How much of the truth will she reveal to him?
This appears to be Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) explaining to the host inside Charlotte who they are, and who they must pretend to be.
Serac (Vincent Cassel) is sitting at his table again – is this another attempt to persuade Maeve to do his bidding?
Who do you think is inside Charlotte? Give us your guesses in the comments!
I truly think Dolores let Teddy go when she uploaded him to the Sublime – she knew he wouldn’t be able to do what was necessary to help her in the revolution and decided to give him peace instead.
My best guess is Peter Abernathy, given how Dolores seems to care for and trust this host, and how difficult it would be for him to come to terms with being in Charlotte’s body. His programming was also corrupted because of the encryption key embedded in his pearl last season – adding even more complexity to his identity issues.
