We’re only a few hours away from the season finale of Westworld, this close to finding out if our lovingly-spun theories are correct, and according to Jimmi Simpson, who plays park guest William on the show, none of the fans has gotten it quite right.
In a new interview with The Canadian Press (published by Yahoo News), the actor said about the finale theories, “I don’t spend all that much time online, but I feel like I’ve been forwarded quite a few things, and I haven’t seen anyone nail this.” He admits, “There are a lot of people coming close to some elements, but as far as the actual machine that’s happening at the end, I think people will be refreshingly surprised and pleased.”
Simpson expresses a huge amount of confidence in series creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, saying, “It’s just not something Jonah and Lisa and J.J. [Abrams] were making up as they went along. I think sometimes people are used to a concept being introduced on television, and then they see people respond to certain things, and they add some new twists and people like it, so they do more stuff like that. This is not that show.”
As for the finale, it sounds like we can expect resolution to most of the major questions we’ve been asking. Simpsons says, “So, I think at the end of this season, it’s the end of a chapter and they’re prepared for it, and I think they really kill it and they satisfy, I would say, at least most of all the things you’re wondering. And then they do this wonderful thing and they just flick on this light, and now you’re seeing a future, as well, but they’re not making you wait for the questions you’ve already been asking.”
