In the modern era of social media and YouTube, one of the most interesting – and, at times, engaging – ways to interact with our favorite television shows or films is to experience all the riffs, mashups, and variations that the more talented (and patient!) members of the fandom create.
Increasingly, the best of the best in this regard are the retro versions of our current crop of television theme songs, done typically in the style of the ‘90s or ‘80s, which combine a great deal of creativity with nostalgia. The ’80s version of Game of Thrones from a few years ago is a great case in point, making one pine for the days of low-fi broadcasts and well-worn VHS copies of our favorite shows.
This month’s take on Westworld, however, easily takes the cake.
Created by Messy Pandas, the video does a fantastic job of not only reimagining the show’s ethereal opening theme in suitably Stranger Things/John Carpenter fashion, but also using the cutting edge of 1980s processing power to generate some wonderful graphics and imagery, as well. The end result is something that will help us enjoy our newest favorite series in a fresh way while helping to pass that interminable wait until the second season arrives in 2018 – even if for only one minute and 14 seconds.
Be sure to leave a note of congratulations on MessyPandas’s YouTube account and to leave your other favorite video riffs on Westworld in the comments below.
