First Trailer Released for Westworld Season 3!

If you tuned into the Game of Thrones finale on HBO last night (and if not, what are you doing with your life?), you may have been lucky enough to catch the first trailer for Westworld‘s third season. That’s right, HBO aired it just before the final episode of Thrones, and it looks amazing! In case you missed it, check it out below the cut.

We get a good look at new addition Aaron Paul‘s character, who features prominently in the trailer. As Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” plays, we hear Paul’s voice saying, “Sometimes it seems like the world looks all right, like they put a coat of paint on it. But inside it’s rotting to pieces.” The scenes are mostly of Paul’s character moving through a modern city as his voice laments the state of the world, intercut with shots of a familiar blonde woman who at one point can be seen shooting men and dragging a body across the ground.

Paul’s character appears to be a thief, and we get our first look at Lena Waithe as well, as his partner in crime. The trailer closes with Paul encountering the blonde woman, revealed to be Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). She seems injured, and he asks if she needs help as she emerges from the shadows…a strange and slightly terrifying look on her face.

Judging from this trailer, the bulk of the action will likely take place in the “real” world, but hopefully we will still see the parks (or what’s left of them) and the hosts that were left behind. What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

  1. It looks amazing! But I don’t think we can really tell how much action is going to take place in the “real” world versus the parks on the basis of one teaser, made when they’ve probably only shot the equivalent of two or three episodes (out of eight, allegedly?). There were leaked photos from location shooting at the Pacific Design Center in LA, previously used for some of the Mesa’s interiors, with what might have been medieval costumes hanging up, and apparently there are some World War II-themed scenes being shot in Spain during the next couple of weeks (in which Vincent Cassel’s character might feature, as according to his Instagram he is currently in Valencia). Plus we need to find out what happens to Maeve, Hector and the gang (we know Thandie Newton and Rodrigo Santoro at least are returning, and I believe from a couple of hints I’ve seen on social media that Leonardo Nam is too). So, I think while there will probably be less park action than in previous seasons, there will be some, and at least some of it in parks we haven’t seen before.

  2. Frankly, I’m not excited about this peek into the “real” world. I love Aaron Paul and that alone is a reason for me to watch S3. However, I hated the end to S2. If too much of the new season takes place away from the park, I will be out. I am much more interested in Maeve, Hector, etc than Dolores and some version of Bernard in a bleak, dark world of human suffering.

  3. I wonder if it could be a story of Dolores working to bring down mankind, but meeting a human at the lower end of the pecking order who is an outsider like herself. She might try and use him for her purposes under a cover story, but get into conflict as she starts to relate to him. Or he might realise at some point what her plans are, and evolve from no-one to the only person in a position to save mankind…?
